Voice Interview
Idle Timeout
What happens if you're silent during a voice interview.
Voice interviews have an idle detection system to handle situations where a candidate becomes unresponsive.
How It Works
- If you're silent for approximately 5 seconds, an amber banner appears: "Still there?" with an "I'm still here" button
- Click the button or start speaking to dismiss the banner and continue
- If silence continues for approximately 10 seconds total, the interview ends automatically
After an Idle Timeout
- The completion page shows a message explaining the interview ended due to inactivity
- It suggests contacting the employer to reschedule if needed
- Everything up to the timeout is submitted for scoring
Tips
- If you need to think, it helps to say something like "Let me think about that for a moment"
- The timer resets whenever you speak or the AI speaks
- The timer only activates after the first exchange — it won't trigger during the initial connection
Text interviews do not have an idle timeout — take as long as you need to type your responses.
